Woman injured by toilet chemical at second location

A woman has been injured by a chemical smeared on a public toilet at a second Christchurch location, prompting police to issue a warning.
Four women had their bottoms injured after sitting on public toilets in suburban Sydenham Park, south of the city centre, about 2am today.
One was so badly injured that she will require plastic surgery for serious burns, police reported this morning.
Tonight, Christchurch Police confirmed a woman had been injured in a similar manner at a second location overnight.
"One woman has been admitted to hospital after a similar injury at a central city nightclub," Inspector Warren Kemp from the Christchurch police communications centre said.
"We are asking women in particular to take care when using public toilets anywhere in the city. "
Though the two locations were about 2km apart it was likely the incidents were connected, Mr Kemp said.
In total three women had been admitted to Christchurch Hospital after using toilets and suffering burns from the chemical. Two others were treated and released.
Christchurch police Senior Sergeant Neru Leifi said the Sydenham Park toilets were sealed off today while the Fire Service hazardous chemical response unit and police investigated.
"It appears that a clear, gel-like substance had been smeared on the toilet seats, press-down buttons and on the building's walls," he said today.
The Sydenham Park toilets were open 24 hours, but there were no surveillance cameras in the area and witnesses were needed to catch whoever left the substance, Mr Leifi said.
The chemical that caused the burns was still being identified.
"Whoever used this substance would need to have some knowledge of the toxic nature of it," he said.
