Ineens doken overal bonte zandoogjes op. Deze zat op de Aucuba, maximaal (optisch en digitaal) ingezoomd op 3 meter afstand en dus niet scherp. Vroeger zag ik ze hier nooit


De Turkse tortels klauteren door de wilg, op zoek naar een plek voor hun nest

Zaaien, snoeien, ruimen, zaaien, snoeien, ruimen... En al snel was het te warm om nog echt iets te doen. Waarna het zelfs te heet werd om nog buiten te blijven zitten, nu die coniferen weg zijn. Als we echt een warme zomer krijgen, dan moet ik aan de andere kant van de tuin gaan zitten, waar schaduw is.
Op de voedersilo werd druk gekibbeld: een koolmees, een mus, een pimpelmees en een groenling wilden stuk voor stuk steeds dáár zitten waar al een ander zat.
Na een tijdje ging het goed: de koolmezen aten tot ze iets groots hadden, wat dan werd meegenomen naar een boomtak verderop en soms met veel gehamer (ongepelde zonnebloempitten) en soms met weinig moeite (pinda's) werd opgegeten. In die tijd aten de mussen, vinken en groenlingen aan de silo, hoewel de vinken duidelijk steeds vaker op de grond scharrelen.
De conifeer achterin wordt nu steeds bevlogen door merels, houtduiven en vinken met takjes en frummeltjes in hun snavels, en de Turkse tortels klauteren acrobatisch door de wilg, duidelijk ook zoekende.
Die wilg loopt uit, de rambler ook, de wijnbessen staan in blad, mijn krent loopt wat achter bij de krent verderop omdat ie half verstopt staat achter de vogelconifeer, maar het speenkruid doet het geweldig :-)
Hoe dan ook, ben al een tijdje aan het zaaien. Oude zaden die ik nog had, nieuwe zaden van een lieve vriendin, en we zullen zien wat het wordt.
Aan het eind van de dag had ik voor mijn doen veel gedaan, maar ja, eten uit de tuin zat er nog niet in. Hoewel...
Er stond al wel iets riant in blad. Het hele eten werd een beetje improviseren: ik had veel zin in patat, dat lag nog in de vriezer maar mijn friteuse bleek overleden. Net doen of ik gek ben, hup de oven in. Vissticks erbij bakken, en de tuin in voor een paar handen Taraxacum officinale. Dat kent u wel: paardenbloem. Alleen oogsten op plekken waar geen honden langskomen (en geen druk verkeer is), even goed wassen, liefst alleen jong, mals blad eten. Wil je genieten van de echte ouderwetse molsla, bedek dan een paardenbloem met grond, zodat het blad bleekt (zoals bij witlof gebeurt).
Paardenbloemblad is net zo knapperig als sla, heeft een licht bittertje (sterker naarmate het blad ouder wordt), doet wat denken aan rucola. Goed als bijmenging bij 'gewone' sla, maar ook solo prima eetbaar.

Een spreeuw had de vetbol ontdekt en haalde acrobatische toeren uit om op de bol te komen en te blijven zitten. De bol zag er een paar dagen later wel erg gehavend uit, dat leek me geen spreeuwen'schade'. Dat idee klopte:


De ekster landde, hipte tot boven de vetbol, stak een poot uit, hees de bol op, en ging aan het eten. Ekstersnavels hakken sneller en grover dan spreeuwensnavels.

Woensdag 15 maart. 15 graden in de schaduw, volle zon, warm. Dus de thermometer eens in de zon gelegd ;-)

De doos waar het tafeltje in zat, was direct populair bij de katten: ze zitten erop, en zoals je kunt zien krabben ze er ook heel graag aan. Binnenkort gaat ie toch echt weg ;-)

De uitgebloeide delen laat ik altijd tot nu staan, ze ogen mooi in licht als dit en allerlei beestjes huizen er 's winters in. Op de voorgrond zie je dat de cotoneaster uitloopt, op de achtergrond klimop bij de schutting. Wie goed kijkt, ziet dat Tijger ook hier alles in de gaten houdt...


Achterin de tuin, mos, schijnaardbei, en onderaan zie je een zuringblad (groen met wat rode vlekken)


Erwten voorgezaaid in wc-rolletjes - straks kunnen ze met rolletje en al uitgeplant


Hm. Die rozenboog kan daar best staan, maar hij staat nog wel scheef. En ik weet inmiddels waarom die rieten matjes die ik op de tuindeur hang, steeds zo snel kapot gaan aan de onderkant:

Teletekst 130: Koning Albert van België krijgt een soort bijstandsuitkering voor de opvang van asielzoekers. Dat bevestigt premier Di Rupo. De koning heeft een appartement op een kasteeldomein ter beschikking gesteld aan dakloze asielzoekers.
Hij krijgt daarvoor 40 euro per gast per dag,als onkostenvergoeding voor water, elektriciteit en eten.
In België is groot gebrek aan plaatsen voor de opvang van asielzoekers. Albert vangt al enkele jaren gezinnen op. Nu verblijft er een gezin van vier mensen.
De Vlaams-nationalistische N-VA heeft berekend dat Albert de afgelopen drie jaar ruim 100.000 euro heeft gekregen.

40 euro per persoon per dag. Ik ken mensen die daar een week mee moeten doen.

Katten, soms zijn het hopeloze beesten.
Tom en Tijger krijgen natvoer als traktatie, in speciale bakjes. Als ik die bakjes tegen elkaar aan tik, komen ze slippend over de vloer aanrennen, mauwend omdat ze het wachten niet langer uithouden.
Vandaag kwam alleen Tijger. Nog eens buiten geroepen, nee, geen Tom. Vreemd.
Tijger schrokte haar bakje vrijwel leeg, dronk daarna buiten wat uit de bak met regenwater en ging lekker uitbuiken op bed.
Een tijdje later dook Tom op, at de restjes van Tijgers portie op en zette het op een hartverscheurend continu mauwen: HIJ HAD NIKS GEHAD!!!
Je kunt zo'n beest niet uitleggen dat ie dan maar op tijd had moeten zijn, dus vooruit: hij z'n eigen zakje natvoer. Wat, verrassing, maar voor de helft op ging.
Nu is het afwachten wie als eerste komt om 'de rest' op te eten, want er is natuurlijk nog maar één rest. En Tom is een beetje simpel soms, maar hij weet doorgaans wel erg goed dat er toch echt nog wat in zijn bakje zat. Ik verwacht dus straks weer gemauw ;-)

Het wortelbakje. Toen ik kind was, hadden zowat al mijn klas- en buurtgenootjes in de winter wortelbakjes, maar als ik die term nu ergens laat vallen, of beschrijf wat het is, dan kijken mensen me altijd glazig aan.
Was het iets regionaals? Ik kan het me haast niet voorstellen.
Eigenlijk wilde ik wel weer eens zo'n bakje maken, maar ik zag in de winkel altijd alleen winterwortels liggen die al gescalpeerd waren, waarmee het vast niet zou kunnen.
Mijn eigen chaoterigheid heeft gezorgd dat het tegendeel bewezen is.
Ik had een winterwortel laten zwerven op het aanrecht, waar ie onder afwas terecht gekomen was. Die afwas wil bij mij nogal eens lang blijven staan, maar vanmorgen is het grootste deel gedaan. En hé! Een winterwortel, aan het uitlopen! Ondanks dat ie gescalpeerd gekocht was.
Ik heb een variant van het wortelbakje gemaakt.
Vroeger sneed mijn moeder een flink stuk van de kop van de grootste wortel af, waarna je vanaf de snijkant "Voorzichtig! Pas op!" de wortel kon uithollen, zodat er een bakje ontstond. Daarna pakte mijn moeder een stopnaald en ijzergaren, prikte drie gaatjes in de rand van het bakje en maakte met het garen een ophangdraad.
Vervolgens werd het geheel voor het raam gehangen, waarna het bakje met water gevuld werd. Zolang je zorgde dat de wortel niet uitdroogde (elke dag wat water bijgieten), bleef het loof doorgroeien - soms tot hele bossen groen.
Aan het gaatjes prikken en ophangen heb ik me niet gewaagd, ik heb het bakje tussen de verhoute stengels van een vetplant gezet, zodat het rechtop blijft staan.
Ik ben benieuwd of de gele uitlopers alsnog groen worden, en of het bakje nog veel uitlopers zal maken.
